Building the capacities of incubators and accelerators

A large number of support structures for entrepreneurship are being set up in Africa. They may be in various forms: incubators, FabLabs (fabrication laboratories), accelerators, etc.

Strengthening, professionalizing and financing these structures are key issues in making innovation a driver for African dynamism.

AFD offers technical and financial assistance programs to build the capacities of structures that support innovative start-ups.

AFRIC’INNOV / AFRILABS

Capacity building and advisory services

Picto

  • AFD offers to deploy a technical assistance mechanism (EUR 4m over a 3-year period) that will contribute to building the capacities of support structures. The objective is to further professionalize them so that they can provide sustainable support to the development of new innovative companies in Africa. Two networks are central to this mechanism: Afric’Innov and AfriLabs.

AFIDBA

Support for inclusive companies

Picto

  • Launched and financed by AFD, the AFIDBA project, whose initial activities started in early 2019, aims to identify, support and finance inclusive start-ups with a social dimension in four countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Morocco and Senegal.
  • During the 3 years of the project, 60 start-ups selected will benefit from the acceleration program. When the technical assistance ends, the most promising start-ups will benefit from a loan on trust combined with a grant, allowing them to create leverage among other investors.
